The main research tasks of the Foundry Institute centre on fundamental knowledge-oriented projects in the fields of metallurgy, solidification, manufacturing technology, casting materials and processes, and, in parallel, application-oriented technical issues connected with casting technology, such as lightweight engineering, development of alloys, and modelling and process optimization. Thanks to the availability of state-of-the-art facilities and a team of committed co-workers, the Foundry Institute is able to look back on decades of success as a reliable development partner, able to provide expertise and quality for the industry and the scientific community. As a member of the Cluster of Excellence „Internet of Production“ and a participant in the collaborative research centre „Precision from Melt“, the Foundry Institute is active in shaping the production technology of tomorrow. The quality and expertise which the Foundry Institute is able to deliver is underpinned by its global alignment, its strategic research fields and its broad range of cooperation projects.
